Training and employment strategy for providing high quality care

We have recruitment offices in India and Philippines to ensure we employ highly skilled nurses as there is a shortage of nurses in the UK. We train and assist them with NMC registration and provide OSCE training to obtain the NMC PIN in the UK. We have established a nursing training centre in India (Chennai), where we are providing experienced nurses with English Language skills, soft skills, regulatory requirements etc. all what is needed to provide high quality nursing care in the UK. We have in-house trainer to ensure the training entails the knowledge, skills and attitude to be an asset to the company and to the community. We provide both in-house and external trainings to staff across all departments to ensure proficiencies and competencies in the overall duty of care offered to our residents. New OSCE nurses will have 3 months paid training in our training centre in Haywards Heath and shadow our experienced nurse till they pass their nursing exam and get their pin.

We work alongside long serving healthcare trainers in providing in person training to our staff twice a month. We cover all aspects of training to ensure staff are competent and confident in care for our resident's needs.

We pay staff more than the living wage at a minimum and offer heavily subsidised accommodation. This together with our culture of promoting from within allows us to retain staff and grow together as a company. Across all homes, maximum usage of agency is less than 1%. We have bank staff (ex-staff who currently works for NHS) who always covers when we are short due to holidays or sicknesses.

Recruitment of the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager for the scheme

We believe in promoting from within. We have registered managers and unit managers across the group, who have worked with us from 5 to 19 years. We have recruited Nicola Ambler as the homes Registered General Manager to lead the team. Nicola has over 30 years of experience and has effectively managed two of our large homes and has a good reputation with CQC and the council.

Through the years, working closely with our nurses when we mentor them, we have noted that given the proper training and support, the correct mentoring and attitude when training future leaders within the home, they perform a hundred times better. Years of experience does not necessarily guarantee good management but to have that willingness to learn, adapt and work with other professionals harmoniously is key to good leadership. We have a culture of promoting staff from within our homes with annual appraisals and pay rises which has helped us grow steadily over the past twenty five years.
